Barr Community Council Micro Grant Guidance
What are Micro Grants?
The aim of the micro-grants is to provide community benefit for local residents, smaller awards than the main Community Fund makes. Unlike the main Community Fund, the micro grants scheme can also support un-constituted groups and individuals.
How much is available?
The Barr CC Micro-grant scheme is intended to support ‘lower level’ activity that is not of sufficient scale to be supported via an application to the main fund. The scheme is intended to support small, local initiatives, where the total project cost is below £600 application threshold. An amount of £600 is available for individuals.
For applicants
In all cases, applicants will need to demonstrate that the proposed activity/project is charitable and provides a level of community benefit. For further information please see list on OSCR Website:
www.oscr.org.uk/guidance-and-forms/meeting-the-charity-test-guidence/
Constituted groups may apply for up to £600 but have to show proof of their finances and their available reserves. Groups that hold or intend to apply for an award from the main fund cannot also apply to the micro-grant scheme for contributions to the same project.
The Community Council can itself apply for a micro-grant should it require an amount of £600 or less for a community project. If the Community Council, or any other applicant, has several small projects, it is encouraged to link these together and apply for a larger amount from the main fund, rather than making several micro-grant applications.
At the discretion of the Community Council, grants can be made to un-constituted groups or individuals, however a ‘sponsor’ organisation should be nominated to hold the grant and make payments in respect of the project. The Community Council may itself act in this capacity. Individuals may for apply for up to £600.
Applications should be made to the Community Council at least two weeks prior to the event and one week before the next Community Council meeting (the community council meets on the second Thursday in month except July and December). All applications must be made using the online application form. A member of the Community Council may contact applicant if anything in application needs clarification/additional information etc.
The Community Council will consider application at its next monthly meeting. All funding applications are heard in private after community council meetings. Any questions please contact: funding@barrvillage.co.uk
