Newly restored gravestone is returned to the kirkyard

The gravestone of Covenanter Edward McKeen was returned to Barr kirkyard on 21 May.

To the dismay of many villagers the historic stone was removed last year without permission, and was eventually tracked down in Patna.  South Ayrshire Council took the opportunity to undertake a restoration by professional conservators, and the stone has now been returned to its rightful place.

In sunshine, a number of residents attended an informal reinstatement ceremony in the kirkyard and all agreed the stone is now looking superb, something the village can be proud of. Special thanks go to South Ayrshire Council, the conservators, and those in the village who worked hard for its return.
