Play Area

Barr Parish Development Company, working with Barr Community Council and South Ayrshire Council are pleased to announce the completion of the Play Park

The playpark was completed at the end of October 2014 and opened officially by Provost Mooney and all the Barr Primary children on the 7th Nov.

The sun shone and the kids had a ball… Councillor Alec Oattes even had a go on the Zip wire and the varied facilities are much appreciated by the community!

The Project

Project leader Alex Tait used the feedback from all the parents in the village to compile a specification wish list for quotes from three companies. A design was selected by the BPDC, and funding secured. SAC agreed responsibility for maintenance once construction was approved.

One of our biggest difficulties was the neighbouring field regularly flooding both the park area and Clachan, however, the Forestry kindly stepped in and arranged for drainage courtesy of FCS. Bearing in mind, the ground has always been an issue, a great deal of the funding has been used to create a proper foundation to ensure longevity and a practical safety surface for the children. The BPDC successfully bid for funding from both Carrick Futures and HHCBF and are delighted to achieve the first of many emerging Barr projects.

Particular thanks to Alex Tait for his tenacious pursuit of the goal.

The contractors at  Wicksteed & Angus Mackintosh for his patience

David Lowden SAC for resolutely standing by us.

Colin Hossack & Lyndy Renwick of FCS for all their help and advice

Barr Community Councils past & present for not giving up

Barr village volunteers & funders CF & HHCBF for making it happen.

BPDC was set up to secure progress on projects like this and has made huge efforts behind the scenes to arrive at this position. The playpark represents the first achievement for the setting up of the Company.
The next stage will be looking at the forest cycle trail, skateboard and multi use games area.
