While the ‘Screws’ are being resurfaced, there are ongoing issues with closures occurring without notice and misleading signs either not up when closed or left up when open. The agreed closures were to take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays to allow the bus service to continue on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays; however the road was closed Wednesday 10 January without warning. ARA apologises and admits a lack of communication. The works are now postponed until February and due notice will be given. Please see the below notice from the Head of Ayrshire Roads Alliance.

“Please accept my apologies to all affected by the uncirculated road closure today at The Screws due to an internal breakdown in communications. A decision has now been taken to postpone the works and reprogram for early February, when the planned roadworks on A714 have been completed. Full details will be provided prior to works commencing. I will ensure that sufficient advance notice is given to prevent any repeat of today’s inconvenience.  On-site information signs will  be erected in advance of the future works.”
